About Me

Hello Guests,

I thought I would throw up an ‘About Me’ page so that my readers can get an idea of how All-About-Tropical-Fish.com came into existence. So here it goes...

My name is Daryl McFarlane and was born in 1980 (Yes, I got love for you if you were born in the 80’s!), which makes me 30 years old at the time of writing this.

About Me - Daryl McFarlane

I was born in sunny South Africa, where I spent 26 years of my life growing up, but I now live in a small country called Gibraltar. If you don’t know, Gibraltar is a tiny outcrop of rock that is attached to the southern tip of Spain.

There was a 2 year stint in the UK in between. I happened to meet my beautiful wife there, but I’m still glad to be away from the freezing cold!

Keeping freshwater Tropical Fish has been my hobby since I received my first fish tank at the age of 11. As a young kid I found out how difficult the hobby can be, purely from a lack of information available.

Obviously the internet is easily accessible nowadays, but I think I can still do my part in helping others in need. Combining my second hobby of computers to make a website on Tropical Fish makes perfect sense. If I can prevent a few fish from being flushed down the toilet then it has all been worthwhile.

My favourite Tropical Fish would have to be the Oscar Cichlid - An amazing fish that has definite moods and character. You have to love the bond an Oscar seems to make with its owner. Feeding time is also quite fun once they are big enough to start eating large insects or other live foods.

Well enough about me and more about the website. I would like to encourage readers to participate wherever possible. Some of the pages have the option of submitting comments and even upload pictures of your fish. Check out one of the fish profile pages to see an example.

I don’t think there is anybody out there that knows everything about keeping Tropical Fish, but at least we can all help each other out. There is such a wide variety of fish and equipment available, so 10 opinions are better than 1.

Let’s not take up any more of your time... Thank you for visiting my website and I hope you find what you are looking for.

If you would like to contact me for any reason, please feel free to use the contact us form.

Best Regards,

Daryl McFarlane
